CNC Lathe
Position Summary
The CNC Lathe I is an entry-level position within the production team, designed for individuals with basic machining knowledge or recent completion of a vocational or trade program. This role offers a pathway to building a career in precision plastic manufacturing, with full on-the-job training provided
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Machine Operation
- Operate CNC lathe machines under the supervision of a senior operator or lead machinist
- Load pre-written CNC programs and set up workpieces/fixtures as directed
- Perform basic tool changes and offsets with guidance
- Run production parts to meet daily output targets
Quality & Inspection
- Conduct basic in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Compare finished parts against engineering drawings and work instructions
- Flag non-conforming parts to a supervisor for disposition
- Maintain accurate production counts and job travellers
Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Perform routine machine housekeeping (chip removal, coolant top-up)
- Keep workstation clean and organised in line with 5S standards
- Report any machine issues or abnormalities to a supervisor immediately
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all workplace health and safety rules and wear required PPE at all times
- Adhere to company procedures for handling plastic materials and cutting fluids
- Actively participate in safety briefings and toolbox talks
Qualifications:
- 0–2 years of CNC machining experience (lathe or mill)
- Basic ability to read a simple engineering drawing or work instruction
- Familiarity with hand measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) — or willingness to learn
- High school diploma / GED required; vocational/trade certificate preferred
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
