Quality Control Inspector (CMM)
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all manufactured plastic components and finished goods meet established customer specifications, internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Working on the swing shift, this individual will perform in-process and final inspections, operate and troubleshoot coordinate measuring equipment (CMM), interpret engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
Essential Skills:
Inspection & Measurement
• Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections on plastic molded and fabricated components per customer and internal specifications
• Interpret and verify dimensions, tolerances, and feature callouts from customer engineering prints and drawings
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to evaluate part conformance including form, fit, and function
• Operate, program, and troubleshoot the Zeiss CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) to perform dimensional inspections
• Perform routine calibration checks and preventive maintenance on CMM and other measurement tools
• Use hand measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and gauges
Documentation & Reporting
• Record inspection data accurately in quality management systems, control charts, and inspection reports
• Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) and initiate disposition of rejected or suspect material
• Maintain and update inspection records, COAs, and supporting quality documentation
• Assist in preparation of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and PPAP documentation as required
Production Floor Support
• Communicate inspection findings and quality concerns to production supervisors and operators in a timely manner
• Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities
• Participate in customer audits, internal audits, and third-party quality audits
• Assist in training production personnel on quality standards and inspection techniques
• Identify process trends and escalate recurring defects to the QC Supervisor
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or related field preferred
• Minimum 2–4 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably plastics (injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, or thermoforming)
• Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and inspect to customer engineering prints and technical drawings
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting Zeiss CMM equipment (CALYPSO)
• Proficiency with precision hand measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, comparators, pin gauges, etc.)
• Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent)
• Ability to work the swing shift schedule, including occasional overtime as production demands require
Preferred Qualifications:
• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT) certification
• Experience with PPAP, APQP, SPC, and FMEA methodologies
• Background in plastic manufacturing processes (injection molding, extrusion, insert molding, etc.)
• Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and electronic quality record management
• Experience supporting customer and third-party audits

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, and be on the production floor for the majority of the shift
• Occasionally lift and carry parts or equipment weighing up to 35 lbs
• Visual acuity sufficient to perform close-tolerance inspection work
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, plastics, and related materials
• Manual dexterity to operate precision measuring instruments
